American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees Local 3399

AFSCME Local 3399 represents most City of Takoma Park workers, and we keep the city running every day. We are the sanitation workers, librarians, gardeners, crossing guards, recreation and arts coordinators, and police dispatchers who answer 911 calls for help.

You can learn more about our fight for fair wages, racial equity, and respect for city employees here. We recently signed a new three-year contract with city management that sought to address wage disparities that seriously impacted our members at the low end of the city pay scale who are predominantly people of color. AFSCME led the transformative Memphis sanitation strike in 1968 during the Civil Rights movement, and we’re continuing that tradition today fighting for racial and economic equity in Takoma Park.
